Last week, we welcomed representatives from UK Research and Innovation as they met with our digital development team in their hub at Stratford-upon-Avon.
UKRI support world-leading research and innovation to push the frontiers of human knowledge and generate social, cultural and economic impact in lots of different areas. They supported Dream, our exploration into how audiences could experience live theatre in the future using gaming technology, in 2021.
Sarah Ellis, who leads our digital development activity, showcased previous projects including The Tempest in 2016, created in collaboration with Intel and in association with The Imaginarium Studios, and Dream which was created with 15 partners including Marshmallow Laser Feast, Manchester International Festival and the Philharmonia.
The group, including UKRI’s CEO Ottoline Leyser, explored the research and development work we are doing at the cutting edge of innovative performance, and the legacy of those projects findingsinthefuture.live
They also experienced some of our work in development, such as tools for our creative teams and audiences in the virtual Royal Shakespeare Theatre, 5G-enabled production tools, creative performance-captioning software and gaming platforms as cultural spaces.
