Our new Co-Artistic Directors, Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey announce their first RSC season of work, with eight Shakespeare plays, three world premieres, a European premiere, a UK premiere, two major revivals and two visiting productions.

The new season looks ahead to a full year across all of our Stratford-upon-Avon theatres: the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Swan Theatre, The Other Place and the re-opening of our popular outdoor performance space, The Holloway Garden Theatre.

Across the season in Stratford-upon-Avon there will be 25,000 tickets at £25 or less. This will run alongside the TikTok £10 tickets for 14 to 25-year-olds and state school students.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre

  • Love's Labour's Lost The King and his friends take an oath to avoid the company of women for three years. Then the Princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting arrive. Luke Thompson leads the company of this comedy, directed by Emily Burns. 11 April - 18 May 2024

  • The Merry Wives of Windsor Sir John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. But it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings in this story. Rumour, gossip and scandal take centre stage in this Blanche McIntyre directed production. 5 June - 7 September 2024

  • The School for Scandal Before Bridgerton there was Richard Brinsley Sheridan's The School for Scandal, a biting comedy of manners in five acts. With sky-high hair and period flair, this story of 18th Century high-society is directed by Tinuke Craig. 2 July - 6 September 2024

  • Romeo & Juliet The ultimate tale of forbidden love, Shakespeare's tragic masterpiece is told through dance as the Northern Ballet visit the RSC for the first time. One of Northern Ballet’s most beloved and critically acclaimed productions. 19 - 28 September 2024

  • Othello Multi-award winning actor John Douglas Thompson makes his RSC debut in the title role opposite Will Keen as Iago and Juliet Rylance as Desdemona.

  • Twelfth Night Prasanna Puwanarajah directs Shakespeare's comedic tale of unrequited love and mix-ups.

  • Hamlet A student is called home to find his life turned upside down. Sent by the ghost of his father to avenge his brutal death, Hamlet’s mission to expose the truth is a perilous journey of madness, murder and lost love. Luke Thallon takes the title role, reuniting with Olivier Award-winning Director Rupert Goold.

The Buddha of Suburbia

SWAN THEATRE

  • Hanif Kureishi’s The Buddha of Suburbia South London in the late seventies. It's the winter of discontent, but for 17-year-old Karim life is about to explode into glorious technicolour. This global stage premiere is a co-production with Wise Children adapted for the stage by Emma Rice, with Hanif Kureishi. 18 April - 1 June 2024 
  • Kyoto December 1997, The Kyoto Conference Centre. The nations of the world are in deadlock. From the creators of The Jungle, Good Chance and the RSC present Kyoto, a new play by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. 18 June - 13 July 2024
  • Pericles When Prince Pericles flees for safety, he finds himself on an epic voyage through storms, shipwrecks, abduction and loss. Co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey directs Alfred Enoch in a major new production of Shakespeare’s late romance. 26 July - 21 September 2024
  • The Red Shoes Kimberley Rampersad directs a magical new staging of the classic fairy tale The Red Shoes for families, adapted by Nancy Harris with music by Marc Teitler.
  • Edward II Double Olivier Award-winning actor and RSC Co-Artistic Director Daniel Evans makes his much-anticipated return to the RSC stage in a new production of Christopher Marlowe’s rarely performed tragedy directed by Daniel Raggett.

THE OTHER PLACE

  • English A classroom in Iran. Four adult students grapple with learning English as a foreign language, but there's more to life than accents, pronunciation and vocabulary. The European Premiere of Sanaz Toossi’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play in a new co-production with Kiln Theatre, directed by Diyan Zorah. 9 May - 1 June 2024 

  • King Lear In Ukrainian without surtitles. First performed in a small western Ukraine town during the height of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Uzhhorod Theatre Company present Shakespeare's tragedy, adapted and directed by Vyacheslav Yehorov, exploring the parallels of haunting loss between the experiences of Ukrainian refugees and the themes in the play. 15 June 2024 (2 performances only)

  • The New Real A major new political play by David Edgar receives its world premiere, directed by Artistic Director of Headlong Theatre Holly Race Roughan.

THE HOLLOWAY GARDEN THEATRE

The Holloway Garden Theatre will return to Stratford-upon-Avon with a new staging of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It directed by Brendan O’Hea. 18 July - 1 September 

This will be accompanied by a series of family-friendly workshops and events as well as a new re-interpretation of The Two Gentlemen of Verona by young people aged 12-18 from our talent development pipeline Next Generation Act. 22 - 24 August

FAMILY EVENTS
May Half Term activities include I, Malvolio - Tim Crouch’s critically acclaimed one-man re-imagining of Twelfth Night and Tweedy’s Massive Circus featuring the star of Gifford’s Circus, Tweedy the Clown, a new collaboration with Underbelly.

Public booking is now open for Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Buddha of Suburbia, English, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The School for Scandal, King Lear, Kyoto, Romeo and Juliet, Pericles and As You Like It.
