Part of 37 Plays, a national playwriting project to create a series of 37 brand new plays that reflect the world we live in today.

SYNOPSIS

Joe and Ciaran, two boys from a care home, are alone on the beach one night. Joe, who has been groomed and rejected by a local fisherman, thinks he can hear the sea talking to him. Wading out, Joe goes in and out of the water changing form and becomes many things: a whale, a mermaid, a dead child, all the time hoping he will become the thing the fisherman wants whilst his friend Ciaran stays on dry land and grows old.

Juliet Gilkes Romero, Playwright

"As it took me into this journey of this inner child, it comes in waves, it almost reduced me to tears; the metaphorical language of this play is really beautifully written and powerfully affecting."
