Some of the actors you've recently seen on our stages have received multiple award nominations.
The Ian Charleson Awards were created in 1991, in memory of the much-loved actor, who died in 1990 at the age of 40; they reward actors under age 30 in a classical role.
The shortlist for this year's awards has now been announced. The RSC nominees are:
- James Corrigan for Palamon in The Two Noble Kinsmen
- Paapa Essiedu for Hamlet in Hamlet and Edmund in King Lear
- Marcus Griffiths as Laertes in Hamlet
- Natalie Simpson as Cordelia in King Lear; Ophelia in Hamlet and Guideria in Cymbeline
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at the National Theatre, London on 5 June.
James Corrigan is also currently playing Mark Antony in Julius Caesar and Agrippa in Antony & Cleopatra.
